Sunday 17 January 2016 saw the Squadron mark the 75th anniversary of its formation in 1941 with a formal parade at the Squadron Headquaters.
A Guard of Honour met the principal guests – The Deputy Lieutenant for Redbridge Thomas Chan, The Mayor of Redbridge Barbara White, Assisitant Regional Commandant for London & South East Region Sqn Ldr Bob Hall, our affiliated Livery Company of Jojners and Ceilers and OC London Wing Wg Cmdr Colin Gale. We also welcomed the Wing Warrant Officer Ivor Thomas, an ex 241 Sqn cadet, and several other wing staff and Sqn Commanders, as well as a large contingent of parents, friends and ex cadets.
CWO Taylor Leonard gave a presentation on the history and ethos of the Squadron and then the 3 officers, 3 SNCOs and 112 cadets formed the parade and where inspected by the guests. A presentations was made by the DL to CWO Jameel Campbell of his Cadet Warrant and the news announced that CWO Campbell is the London Wing nominee for the Dacre Sword. The Livery Company made a generous donation to the Sqn funds and CIs Lucy Russelland Kris Kretovs recieved their certificate of appintment.
The OC Sqn, Sqn Ldr Godden then lead the Squadron in a march past of 3 Flights, Banner Party and the Sqn Band before all ranks and guests retired to the main hall for a buffet lunch provided by the Sqn Civilian Committee. Afterwards OC31 (Tower Hamlets) Sqn Flt Lt Rex Nicholls presented the Sqn with a engraved presentation crests marking the close assocation of the 2 Squadrons.
This was a day which the last 75 years was fittingly celebrated and we look forward to our 100th anniversary! The photos show the whole Sqn, Cadet 100s or 50s, the parade and the 31 Sqn presentation to 241. “One of Many – Second to None”
