A Busy Weekend

Over the weekend of the 01 – 02 Ocober Cadets were busy competing against other units from the Air and other cadet forces. On the Saturday the Wing Field Day took place at Woolwich Barrack with 23 Sqns from London Wing taking part in competitions in Drill, Banner Drill, Band, photography, Aircraft Recognition and aero modelling. After a busy day in very hot conditions the Sqn, lead by Sgt Mandalia, won the Aircraft Recognition, Individual Bugler (Cdt Robson), Fanfare Team (Cpl Russell-White, Cdts Robson and Cdt Leonti), Under 15 Photography (Cdt Gupta), came 2nd in the Banner Drill and 3rd (or 5th) in the Drill depending on how the results were interpreted! This impressive set of results meant that the Sqn came first overall and was awarded the inagural Wing Field Day Trophy, presented by the Wing Chairman, Air Commodore Batt.

On the Sunday the Sqn competed, again at Woolwich, in the Elworthy Sword Competition against units from the Army Sea and Air Cadets in a skills competition. The Team, lead by Sgt Bliss won the Drill and the March and Shoot, and a second in the Obstacle course and Rowing. However, Archery wasnt our strong point with the result the team came 3rd overall only 4 points behind the winners. Whilst not the result was had hoped for it was a strong perfomance and will inform our training for 2012!
