At the end of October Cadets had the opporunity to attend 5 AEF at RAF Wyton to fly in the aerobatic Grob Tutor, and experience the thrill of taking control of the aircraft and carrying out aerobatics. In November the Sqn attended the Lord Mayors Show parade through the streets of the City of London as part of the London Wing contingent, with Cpl Ross Graham having the honour of carrying the Wing Banner, escorted by Cpls Benjafield and Murphy (as seen live on the BBC coverage). Later in the month all cadets and uniformed staff took part in the annual fitness assessment of a 1.5 mile timed run, press ups and sit ups, with the NCOs and Staff having to pass in a certain time, which was easier for some than others! The resuts and benefits are, however, seen in the Cross Country results!
Over the weekend of 27 – 29 November cadets attended Snowdonia in North Wales to carry out mountaineering and mountain biking in an ardous and challenging wild country environment. Meanwhile Cdt Mondahass passed his Gliding Induction Course at Weathersfield Airfield in spite of awful weather, and Cpls Mandalia and Dutney passed a London Wing Junior NCO course held at Mile End TA Centre. Run by staff from the Wing the course is designed to give newly promoted Cpls the training and instruction needed to carry out their roles on their Sqns, and is also an excellent chance to meet cadets from the various Sqns around London. Cpl Dutney commented “this was an excellent course which I highly recommend to all Cpls!”
The photos show a Grob Tutor, cadets awaiting to fly, the Banner Party in the City, Cadets (and the OC!) recovering after the run, and Cpls Mandalia and Dutney after their course.
