Award of BEM to WO Phil Wright

The Sqn is pleased is announce that Her Majesty the Queen has honoured Warrant Officer (ATC) Phillip Wright with the award of the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Birthday Honours List for his 42 years of service on and to 241 Squadron. Phil, who is only the second Squadron Warrant Officer we have had since 1952, has followed in the footsteps of WO Norman McGrath who was also awaded the BEM in the 1970s.

Phil’s service to the Squadron, Corps and local community of Wanstead and Woodford and beyond has been outstanding and has included being the ATC WO at the Royal Albert Hall for the Festival of Remberance coordinating the ATC contingent, training the Sqn Drill Team to win the Wing Drill Trophy 7 times, running the Sqn recruit courses, at times single handedly, organsing his team of Cadet NCOs and cadets to induct and train new recruits (averaging around 100 recruits a year), and ensuring hundreds of cadets have taken to the air by staffing weekday flying sorties amongst many, many activities, events, facilitation, training and unseen hard work to further the young people on the Squadron.
