Cadets take to the Mountains

Over the half term week over 30 cadets and staff deployed to Glenridding, Ullswater in the Lake District to carry out mountain trg for beginners. The week is run from a bunkhouse at Glennriding on the shores of Ullswater, and consists of a course to take absolute beginners and train them to be able to walk, navigate and survive in all weathers in the hills. The culmination of the course is a two day expedition without the Instructors and Staff being present.

In addition Staff continuation training was carried out with several Solo routes being carried out as well as various climbing routes. The photos show cadets on top of Place Fell at 637m above sea level, part of the expedition route – the pass to Threshwaite Mouth (taken from Stoney Cove Pike – there is a group in the photo honest!)and cadets erecting a tent at the campsite after the first day.

Cdt Haroon Ahmed stated “Awesome trip, learnt lots of new things including navigation and radio with first-hand experience, extremely fun when going up and down hills, and the expedition was good too…Food was very nice!”
