The Sqn provided a Senior Drill Team, a Junior Drill Team and a Banner Party for the annual London Wing Drill Competition held at Woolwich Barracks on Sunday 28 Sep 08.
The Sqn was defending its position of premier drill Sqn in the Wing having won the competition in 2006 and 2007. However, this year the team of 12 had 10 new members and the SNCO ic, ICWO Caroline Dent, was also taking her first competition as the leader, so no pressure!
In spite of fierce competition the Team came 1st and CWO Dent was judged the Best NCO. The Team will now represent the Air Cadets at the Annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in November and CWO Dent will carry the Air Training Corps Banner.
Sgt James Simpole and his team of 4 Cadets were the winners of the first Wing Banner Drill Competition.
Cdt Alex Dutch also lead the Junior Drill Team for the first time. As we entered the Senior competition our junior team could only compete for honours in this part of the day. However, when the results were examined the Team would have won and Cdt Dutch would have come joint second, an excellent result for a very young team with a Cadet Leader!
However, it wasnt all good news as the Aircraft Recognition Team came second to a very strong team from 6F (Romford) Sqn in spite of a strong performance by Sgt Sandhu who was 3rd overall.
But as a compensation the OC Sqn Ldr Godden won the Adult Photographic Competition!
In all an excellent day with the Cadets hard work and dedication being rewarded with a hat-trick in the Senior Drill.
