During the Summer holidays Corporal Tom Bean, Frazer Linning and Lenoard Taylor had the opportunity to attend an oversease camp hosted by RAF Gibraltar. The programme was very different to UK camps, with treks all over `The Rock`, and indeed inside it, and under it. Cadets navigated the Rock to all the usual tourist destinations, including a ride on the cable car and naturally meeting the occupants of the Rock – The Barbary Apes , who were almost constant companions – only waiting for any excuse to whip any food they could see from the cadets and indeed staff – which happened on a regular basis!. The camp also went on private tours to O’Hara’s battery and the Military caves both not open to the general public, also caving in tunnels well under the main structure of the Rock. Cpl Bean commented “this was an amazing opportunity to be able to experience the RAF in action overseas and be able to see the many opportunities and career paths open to service men and women abroad, as well as having the opportunity to explore the local culture”.
