On Saturday 09 May Cpl Jessica Murphy attended Loughton Royal British Legion HQ to be presented with the inagural Poppy Appeal Trophy kindly donated by the British Legion. This will be awarded to the cadet who collects the highest individual amount during the November Poppy Appeal week.
For 2008 Cpl Murphy, who has been on the Sqn for 18 months collected over £300. She was awarded the trophy and a Gift Certificate by RBL Poppy Appeal Coordinator George Moulds, who previously served in the Army.
Accompanied by her mother and Off Cdt Kris Pisano representing the Sqn Staff, Jess stated “It was a great night and I was proud to be the first recipient of this award”.
OC 241, Sqn Ldr Jerry Godden said “this is an mark of the strong bonds between the Air Cadets and the British Legion, and shows how practical help can be given by young people to our veterans of all ages and conflicts”. Cdt Dimitri Manning-Coe was awarded a Certificate for the second highest amount raised, at over £180.
These tremendous amounts where part of the over £5000 collected by the Sqn for the Poppy Apeal in 2008.
