Luke goes Solo

After recent flying and gliding experiences for the cadets on the Squadron two cadets have been able to go further with a Gliding Scholarship and a Flying Scholarship. Cpl Luke Thompson has just returned from a weeks course at Weathersfield Airfield learning to fly the Viking Glider. Luke, 16, was able to go solo on the last day of the course, and was in control of a glider costing over ¬£30,000 before he can drive or vote! Luke said “this was a great course and I was over the moon to go solo and get my Silver Wings”. The Squadron OC, Sqn Ldr Godden said “this is an excellent example of the opportunities avaiable to cadets who can rise to the challenges¬†and can lead to a career in aviation”.

The photos show Luke being presented with his Wings by the OC of 614 VGS, and just before his solo attempting to look like Tom Cruise!
