241 (Wanstead and Woodford) Squadron Air Training Corps has adopted Haven House Children’s Hospice as their Charity in 2007. Haven House provides short term respite care and end of life care, for children aged 0-19 years with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.
The Staff and Cadets have raised money over the last year by bag packing at local supermarkets and carrying out a sponsored abseil from a 120 foot high water tower. At the Squadron annual presentation night in December Ms Claire Webb from the Charity received a cheque for £2000 from Civilian Instructor Danny Goldman who has been instrumental in organising our efforts for the Charity.
In addition Cadets have carried out work at the Charity Shops to help tidy the site and are looking forward to assisting at other events in the New Year, as well as continuing to raise money for the Charity.
The Officer Commanding, Sqn Ldr Jerry Godden, said “There are many negative news items involving young people; here is an example of the unsung majority of decent young people going out of their way to do something positive for their community. This is a magnificent effort by the cadets of the Squadron to raise money for a very worthy local charity, and we look forward to building on this start by further practical help in the New Year”.
