Mountaineering in the Lakes

Over the half term week over 45 cadets and staff deployed to Glenridding, Ulswater in the Lake District to carry out mountain trg for beginners.

The week is run from a bunkhouse and consists of a course to take absolute beginners and train them to be able to walk, navigate and survive in all weathers in the Hills. The culmination of the course is a two day expedition without the Instructors and Staff being present.

One of the Students, Alex Brown, stated "I had a great time and I am now looking forward to doing my Silver DoE Expedition. All the cadets bonded very well and we all had a great time in the evening, and seeing the Typhoon’s fly past on the thursday was excellent".

In addition Staff continuation training was carried out with several Solo routes being carried out.

ICWO Kris Pisano is now on a Mountain Leaders Introduction Course at the ATC Trg Centre in Windermere, and Plt Off Matt Davies is attended a Rock Climbing Course at the same venue.

Meanwhile CI Kate Channon attended an Obstacle Instructors Course at Longmoor Army Camp, and can now conduct cadets over Obstacle Courses, and other cadets attended two flying slots at RAF Benson to fly the Tutor aircraft during the week.
