Putting the Air in Air Cadets

In January the Sqn did not let the bad weather prevent it from taking full opportunity of the Aviation activities open to cadets. 5 Cadets achieved their Gliding Induction Certificates at 614 VGS at Weathersfield Airfield (on the 02 and 17 of January), all having up to 5 launches in a Viking glider, having the chance to take the controls and fly the glider under instruction. They can now go onto apply for their Gliding Scholarships when 16.

On the 27 January 9 cadets attended RAF Benson in Oxfordshire to fly the Tutor aerobatic trainer with 6 Air Experience Flight. The cadets where able to take control during the flight and carry out aerobatics. Cdt Christopher Raj, who attended a GIC as well as the flying said “these were great opportunities during which I was able to fly both a glider and an aeroplane, and try out aerobatics!”.

The photos show the Tutor and the Vking, cadets awaiting their flight in a Tutor (with Cdt Izzy Murphy being somewhat camera shy), the view from the cockpit of the Tutor with Didcot power station in the distance, and an atmospheric shot from the Viking cockpit near dusk over Weathersfield (courtesy of Cdt Raj).
