On Monday 20 May the Squadron saw the formal passout parade for No 72 Recruit Flights. After a packed 6 – 8 months of training the cadets were posted into the main 2 Flights on the Sqn. Their training has consisted of learning about the ATC and RAF, Weapon Training, use of radios, Expedition Training, Drill, Sport, and Airmanship, having the opportunity to take part in powered flying and rifle shooting, complete a recruit training weekend at Crowborough Training Camp and participating in the McGrath Trophy.
Their proud parents watched a drill display by the cadets and were then given a presentation of what their young people had achieved and the opportunities open to them in the future by Fg Off Nick Harvey and the Flight Commander Sgt Gideon Goldsmith. The Flight was then marched onto the Sqns Final Parade and the cadets welcomed to the main Sqn by the OC, Sqn Ldr Jerry Godden, and then posted to their new Flights, where a bright future awaits them. A number of cadets were presented with awards for RF 70 Shooting – Cdt Morina, Best Cadet – Cdt Murphy, Best Drill – Cdt Fallows, Best Exams – Cdt Kasa. Additionally Cpl Max Lungu and Stefan Outzen were presented with Certificates of Merit by Police Sargent Chris Chandler, on behalf of the Borough Commander, for their actions in assisitng a distressed woman in the street in 2012.
