On a typically busy weekend the Cadets from the Squadron carried out a wide range of activities.
Firstly the London and South East Region Field Day at Carver Barracks, Essex. The 6 Wings in the region where competing in a number of disciplines and competitions The Drill Team represented London Wing, and we also provided half the 8 cadet Shooting Team and a 4 cadet First Aid Team, and we were thus a major competent of the overall Wing Team.
The Shooting Team came first, with our cadets having the highest score in London Wing, and the Drill Team came a creditable 5th, bearing in mind their relative inexperience. We are still awaiting the first aid position, but overall the results ended up with London Wing coming second, its highest placing for many years.
Then Wales. 26 Staff and Cadets attended Caple Curig Training Camp for a weekend of Rock Climbing, Mountain Walking and Mountain Biking under the tuition of the Squadrons Adventure Training Staff. The weather was good and the camp facilities excellent, with the weekend only be marred by mechanical problems with the Sqn minibus which required the aid of the AA!
Cdt Bliss stated that this was “Probably the best cadet weekend I’ve been on! The squadron should do more mountain biking!”
And finally 10 Cadets travelled to RAF Cranwell for a week Gliding Scholarship Course with the aim of flying a glider solo by the end of the week!
