SOS – Xmas for the Troops

Cadet Warrant Officer Kristina Pisano is the Senior Cadet NCO of 241 Sqn, and at the age of 19 is responsible for 150 cadets on the Squadron. Moved by the plight of the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan she organised the sending of festive parcels from each of the Sqns 5 Flights. She stated:

“As Christmas quickly approaches Britain is busy preparing for the festive season, buying gifts for loved ones, stocking up on food and drink and spending extra towards that party outfit they must have!

However, as the wars continue to rage in Iraq and Afghanistan many troops will not come home to their family and friends over the holiday season. The Support Our Soldiers (SOS) campaign was started by a true squaddie’s mother who wanted to make family and friends as well as the general public communicate more with the brave men and women serving overseas. Several of the Sqn’s ex cadets are serving in the Armed Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan as I write.

The cadets of 241 (Wanstead & Woodford) Sqn wanted to get involved and together helped produce many parcels for the appeal, filled with gifts including chocolate, sweets, biscuits, toiletries, underwear, socks, books and complete with Santa hats! Many wrote Christmas cards and letters of appreciation and support, with pictures of our squadron activities also included as an extra!

We hope these those boxes will make a difference to somebody’s Christmas and bring a little joy to their hearts as they know we are thinking of them back at home.

I too appreciate the fantastic effort the cadets put into this appeal and hope we can continue to support our soldiers wherever possible”.
