On Monday 27 January 2014 the Squadron welcomed the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers to the HQ for a formal affiliation parade, with the current Master of the Company Mr Anthony Bown and several other members attending. The Livery Companies of the City of London are various historic trade associations almost all of which are known as the “Worshipful Company of…” their relevant trade, craft or profession. The medieval Companies originally developed as guilds and were responsible for the regulation of their trades, controlling, for instance, wages and labour conditions. The active Companies, which currently number 109, play an important part in social life and networking in the City and have a long and proud history of cultural and education patronage. The Joiners and Ceilers company has a long and distinguished history dating back to before Queen Elizabeth I, who awarded their charter in 1571. Today however the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers seeks to foster and enhance the traditional crafts of joinery and ceiling (wood carving), particularly through setting standards and encouraging students and apprentices of all ages. It also seeks to be active in charitable giving, constant in the promotion of fellowship amongst its members, and steadfast in upholding the ancient traditions of the company and the City of London through its formal banquets and dinners and other informal events.
The guests inspected a formal parade and march past, under the command of the cadet NCO’s lead by CWO Isabel Hulbert, and then toured the Squadron to see the wide range of activities open to the cadets, including a Police Citizenship Course run by a Special Constable (who is also a member of staff on the Squadron). On the final parade the Squadron Commander, Sqn Ldr Jerry Godden, presented the Master with a Squadron plaque to seal the process. The OC stated “This was an excellent night which showed the Company the Squadron and its activities. We look forward to a long a fruitful relationship with the Company and we will be inviting them to a number of events this year. We also look forward to providing a Guard of Honour for the Company’s formal dinner night in March”.
