Cadets have just returned from the Bronze Duke of Edinburghs Award Expedition in the wilds of Essex near Thaxted and Stanstead Airport.
Groups of cadets navigated themselves around this rural area, with full rucksacks carrying all their equipment, with varying degrees of success over the two days in a mixture of weather, most of which was wet!
Camping overnight in a austere campsite with a minimum of facilities, cooking for themselves and getting up early in a downpour to complete the task was no easy matter, but after a excellent training regime on the Sqn over the previous 2 months, run by CI Steve Hawes, it was obvious who had paid attention!
Having passed the Phase I Expedition they now have 3 weeks to produce a written report of the weekend to fully pass this section of the DoE Award.
For some cadets this was the last section of the Award they have done, for other the first, with the finish scheduled for early 2008.
