The Sqn didnt stop!
Sgts Tom Burgess and Kyle O’Donovan gained their Glidng Scholarship Wings by flying gliders (which cost £32,000 – totally under their control before they can drive or vote!) solo at Wethersfield Airfield.
Cdt Connor Wilson commenced his GS Course at the same place
ISgt Andy Webb gained his Advanced Gliding Scholarship Wings by flying 5 solo sorties, as part of his Staff Cadet training on 614 Volunteer Gliding Sqn.
ISgt Natalie Ali commenced a 4 week Flying Scholarship Course at Dundee Airport, after being one of 4 cadets in the country selected for a John Cunningham Scholarship – as reported on the news page of the ATC website!
6 Cadets attended a weeks camp at RAF Lyneham, the home of the Hercules transport, and the cadet experienced a week in the life of a RAF Station, including flying, shooting, a night exercise, and work experience with sections such as the RAF Police and engineering sections. Cpl Carl Gbeho was awarded the best cadet of the camp, no mean achievement considering the number of NCOs from different Sqns on the camp.
On 16 July the Sqn attended an ETR practice at Pirbright Ranges and over 45 cadets had the opertunity to fire the L98 5.56mm rifle at ranges of up to 300m. Several cadets qualified for marksman awards, with Cpl Fothergill, Foley and Cdt Avant gaining their Corps Marksman, the highest award possible.
1 Flight attended a weekend in North Wales where cadets were able to experience rock climbing, mountain biking and hill walking.
The Summer Party was held at Wanstead Rugby Club to celebrate the end of school and the start of the summer holidays, complete with BBQ and Disco.
and lastly 3 cadets attended 614 VGS to complete their Gliding Induction Course on Sunday 23 Jul – Cpl Jay Bhadresha, James Simpole and Cdt Petinauld were all successfull in gaining their GIC 3 award and are now eligable to go foward for their Gliding Scholarship course.
